Michael-Janasik

Join Us As We Walk In Memory Of Michael Janasik

Seven years ago, just after Michael had turned 18, he was taken from us in a tragic automobile accident. Nothing can replace the loss of Michael for his family and friends, but his memory can live on through your participation in this 5K walk around the Nicolet High School Track.

Our Spread Your Wings Walk will help support the Nicolet High School basketball program which Michael loved, and will serve as a reminder of a life tragically taken from us too soon.

Michael's Story: A love of Hoops, Duck Hunting, Boating, Fishing, Family & Friends

These are things that 18-year-old Michael Janasik loved most in life, when he was tragically taken by the act of a drunken driver in the summer of 2009.

Michael loved life and the challenges that life gave him. As a third grader, he entered Stormonth Elementary School in Fox Point, not knowing anyone.

He quickly forged what would become lifelong friendships with a host of wonderful children and teachers at that school. Michael and his family have always been so thankful to the school and the teachers for making him feel
so welcome.

In fifth grade, Michael started at Bayside Middle School. Once again, the experience was overwhelmingly positive for him. He participated in basketball, soccer and volleyball. Michael loved that the teachers taught to his learning style, which allowed him to excel both academically and as a human being.

One of his greatest accomplishments at Bayside, and something which he took great pride in, was winning a Community Award for helping other students with special needs. It was the self-fulfillment he received from helping others that drove his decision to designate himself as an organ donor when he obtained his driver's license.

Michael'S Sacrifice Lives on Today

When Michael died, he gave his organs to help numerous people, donating his lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas and heart. The recipient of Michael's lungs, who lives in Atlanta, states, "Michael was a selfless human being who gave the ultimate gift of life to others."
